{"id":46727,"date":"2013-11-11T20:49:36","date_gmt":"2013-11-11T20:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wcsawater.com\/?p=46727"},"modified":"2019-03-07T20:28:14","modified_gmt":"2019-03-07T20:28:14","slug":"dave-cheek-named-operations-manager-for-washington-county-service-authority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wcsawater.com\/index.php\/2013\/11\/11\/dave-cheek-named-operations-manager-for-washington-county-service-authority\/","title":{"rendered":"Dave Cheek Named Operations Manager for Washington County Service Authority"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>ABINGDON, Va. \u2013&nbsp;<\/strong>Dave Cheek has been named operations manager for the Washington County Service Authority (WCSA), the third-largest water and wastewater utility in Southwest Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his new role, Cheek provides technical assistance to WCSA\u2019s operations departments in the areas of planning, efficiency, budget development and human resources management. Cheek\u2019s additional responsibilities include regulatory compliance management and safety program implementation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cheek brings three decades of experience to his new position. He comes to WCSA from Gerdau S.A. in Petersburg, Va., where he served as Rolling Mill superintendent since 2008. In that role, he was responsible for safety, production, maintenance and financial operations. His additional experience includes a variety of positions with Gerdau S.A., Chaparral Steel and ChemFirst Corp., which was acquired by Dupont.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are excited about Dave joining our team,\u201d says Robbie Cornett, general manager of WCSA. \u201cHis experience in the areas of operations, planning, management and safety will be a great asset to our organization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A native of Liberty, N.C., Cheek earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University. Cheek serves on the boards of the United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg, Va., and the Southside (Petersburg) Leadership Council. He previously served on the planning and zoning boards of Maypearl, Texas, and Knightdale, N.C. Cheek holds three United States and European Union co-patents relating to heating molten steel and the recycling of aluminum waste.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very impressed with the employees and staff at Washington County Service Authority,\u201d Cheek says. \u201cThey are dedicated to providing outstanding service and value to their customers. I look forward to becoming an integral part of this team and the community it serves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More About WCSA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2013, the WCSA serves approximately 21,000 water connections and more than 2,000 wastewater connections in Washington County, Va., and surrounding areas. The water system consists of approximately 900 miles of water line, a 6.6-million-gallon-per-day surface water treatment plant, a 2.5-million-gallon-per-day membrane filtration plant, two springs, one well, 26 pump stations and 24 water storage tanks. The wastewater system consists of approximately 100 miles of wastewater collection lines, 29 pump stations and two wastewater treatment plants.
