Ongoing Projects:

  • The Town of Chilhowie and WCSA Regional Mill Creek Water Treatment Plant Clearwell Tank Replacement Project is currently underway to install two new 280,000-gallon clearwell tanks. One tank has been replaced and is in operation. The second tank is scheduled to be completed in late winter 2024. The $1.282 million project is funded by USDA Rural Development and the Mount Rogers Planning District Commission.
  • The Mendota Road Water Line Extension Project will continue the installation of water line infrastructure begun nearly 20 years ago, and will deliver service to 32 additional residences along a more than eight-mile section of Mendota Road. It will also allow these residences to be served by WCSA’s water system from its Middle Fork Water Treatment Plant.

Over the past several months, WCSA has been working to acquire additional funding to complete the remaining 3.1-mile section of needed water line from Robinette Gap Road to the existing line near the Mendota waste station. WCSA has received funding from the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water and an additional $1,184,000 to complete the project, which is expected to be completed in June 2024.
  • The Mary’s Chapel/Archery Range Road Water Line Project will enable WCSA to bring water service to homes along Mary’s Chapel Road and a portion of Walker Mountain Road, along with an unserved section of Archery Range Road. The project will provide new service to 14 homes in the project area and updated service to 50 homes connected to an older line that is experiencing service issues.

The project will include 17,500 linear feet of water line and construction of a water pumping station. This project has been awarded to Little B Enterprises. Inc for $1,968,772.18. The project is funded by the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water and WCSA. Construction began in August 2023.

Upcoming Projects:

  • The Lee Highway Corridor Sewer Expansion Project is a multi-phase project that will bring much-needed sewer treatment capacity to the west-central portion of Washington County. The project is funded by USDA Rural Development, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Washington County and WCSA, and was designed by Thompson & Litton.

The initial “backbone” project will include four sewer pumping stations, approximately 41,220 linear feet of sewer force main line, 32,221 linear feet of gravity sewer line and 150 sewer manholes. Bids were received on Aug. 8, 2023.
