When You Are Billed
Class Map
Washington County is divided into six areas, known as classes. Each class is billed separately, once a month. Each MXU in a class is programmed to transmit a signal when that class is to be billed; it will not transmit a signal until the next scheduled billing for that class.
Class One extends from Virginia Highlands Airport to Abingdon High School. This class requires 200-300 miles of driving (approximately 13 hours) to collect readings. There are 5,325 customers in Class One. These meters are read around the fourth week of each month. Class 1 is billed the first week of the month.
Class Two extends from Abingdon High School to Meadowview, Emory, Glade Spring and Poor Valley. This class requires 300 miles of driving (approximately 14 hours) to collect readings. There are 4,063 customers in Class Two. These meters are read around the first week of each month. Class 2 is billed the second week of the month.
Class Three extends from the Smyth County line to Mill Creek, Friendship, all of Lee Highway to the intersection of Highway 58, and from Highway 58 to Damascus, Taylors Valley and Wideners Valley. This class requires 350 miles of driving (approximately 14 hours) to collect readings. There are 3,364 customers in Class Three. These meters are read around the second week of each month. Class 3 is billed the third week of the month.
Class Four extends from Watauga Road to Highway 75, all of the South Holston Lake area, Denton Valley, Alvarado, Green Springs Road, Cleveland Road and Cummings Street to Interstate 81. This class requires 200 miles of driving (approximately 10 hours) to collect readings. There are 2,405 customers in Class Four. These meters are read around the second week of each month. Class 4 is billed the third week of the month.
Class Five extends from Virginia Highlands Airport to John Battle High School, Wyndale Road to Industrial Park Road, all of Gate City Highway and Reedy Creek Road. This class requires 250 miles of driving (approximately 10 hours) to collect readings. There are 2,622 customers in Class Five. These meters are read around the third week of each month. Class 5 is billed the fourth week of the month.
Class Six extends from John Battle High School to Clear Creek Road, Wallace Pike and all of Benhams Road. Class Six also includes areas of Bristol, such as King Mill Pike, High Point, Sinking Creek and Old Jonesboro Road. This class requires 250 miles of driving (approximately nine hours) to collect readings. There are 2,369 customers in Class Six. These meters are read around the third week of each month. Class 6 is billed the fourth week of the month.
